As members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America,(ELCA) we at Mt. Zion - St. Luke Lutheran believe in one God in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.(called the Triune God) We understand God to be three separate, individual persons, each with their own personality and work to do, and with whom we can have a personal relationship. But they are only one God. This is a mystery, but so much of God is mystery! We believe it to be true.
God the Father, with the Son and the Spirit, created and loves all of creation - the earth and the seas and all of the world’s creatures, including us! We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives through his death on the cross and in his new life as our Lord, and we trust that God's Spirit is active in the world, inspiring us, strengthening us and leading us in the way God would have us go.
We believe that we are part of God’s unfolding plan to restore the world back to the way God envisioned it to be from the beginning. When we gather for worship, we believe that we are connected with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear God’s word in worship, we believe we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit through the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, we strive to carry God's love out into our community and the world beyond our doors, in our words and by our actions.
The convictions shared by Christians from many different traditions are expressed in statements of belief called creeds. The creeds that ELCA Lutherans affirm and use in worship confess the faith of the church through the ages and around the world.
We at MZSL accept the following creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church:
We believe, teach and confess our faith in the Lutheran Reformation themes of Grace alone through Faith alone, Scripture alone, and Christ alone. This means that our salvation is not our own doing, but is God's gift to us in Jesus.
We are a well-established congregation where worship, fellowship, evangelism, stewardship, education, spiritual growth and discipleship forms and shapes our common lives.
We invite and welcome all to share with us the mission, fellowship, and ministries of our faith community called Mt. Zion - St. Luke.
