On the first Wednesday of each month, MZSL folks prepare and serve a hot meal to the good folks at the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen in Montezuma, Ga, the town across the Flint River from Ogelthorpe. This is an Ecumenical ministry, with members of many area churches working together to provide a weekly hot meal for the hungry who drop-in, no questions asked!
Every Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m., a small group of us meet to pray together in the prayer form called Centering Prayer. We light a cnadle, read a brief devotion, then sit in silence for 20 minutes, resting in the presence of the Lord. We ask no questions, seek no meesage. We clear our minds and receive the gift of peace that only the Lord can give.
MZSL is a praying church. On the first Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m., a group of faithful women gather to study the Bible and pray together. All women from MZSL are welcome to join their thoughts and prayers with the other's in this valuable ministry called Grace Circle.
On the Third Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m, a small group of us carpool to The Oaks Nursing home. There we have a hymn sing from 10:30 to 11:30a , with the residents calling out their favorite hymns for us all to sing together. The residents look forward to this time of praising God with song, and so do we! We get back to the church around noon, with smiles on our faces.
Adopt a Highway Cleanup
Several times a year we gather at the Mt Zion Lutheran Church Cememtery Site to cleanup Highway 26. It is a labor of love to proctec the earth and resources God has given us.
Several times a year, we are asked by the Leader of the Kairos Prison Ministry from Dooly County Prison to provide snacks for the residents who participate in this life-changing ministry. We provide cookies and soda for the week-end program, where they pray this prayer:
Kairos Community Prayer
Jesus, come join us in our journey as we seek your will for this community in this environment.
Teach us to love each other as you love us, to give ourselves as you give yourself, that the kingdom of God might be made present to all. Amen.
Quilting:
On the third Tuesday of each month, several of our members from MZSL gather in the Lingle Room to assemble quilts made to the Lutheran World Relief requirements, to be shipped all over the world.
Quilts are used for warmth, for carrying children or gathering fuel, for shelter from the weather or shade from the sun and in any number of creative ways by those who gratefully receive them.
Once a year, we gather the assembled quilts, bless them for their journey and take them to a distribution center for LWR, where they are sent to the people who need them.
Each year at Christmas time, MZSL joins with the Montezuma United Methodist Church to purchase good quality toys for the Foster Children in our community. We take turns holding a pizza party at our churches, where the gifts are distributed by Santa! Last year we gifted 65 children!
